& saya sharing bersama 4 PC Client HardDisk 20GB / Memory 128MB , berikut Jaringan LAN (local area network)

misalnya:

HardDisk Server / Master : 80GB bisa menampung +/- 200 CD

HardDisk Client hanya 10GB saja !! .

Server : Pentium III / 500Mhz dengan Memory 256MB
Client: Pentium II / 400Mhz dengan Memory 128MB.

Sistem Jaringan LAN dengan Swicth HUB 10/100Mbps atau Wireless 54Mbps

OS : Win98 , Win2000, WinXP , Win2000Server.

kenapa di perpustakaan ? ini salah satu alasannya ..

  • VMS: Manage your Discs in a DIGITAL LIBRARY & Ready to Use for Intranet and Internet

    eiNetwork/Carnegie Libraries of Pittsburgh, 2003

·                     The eiNetwork is a regional asset that furthers the mission of Libraries by providing the Information Infrastructure to the libraries of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The eiNetwork is the provider of all technology for public libraries in the region, servicing over 80 sites. Housed in the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, eiNetwork has implemented VMS software at many of its sites and according to Andrea Clarkson, Customer Support Manager, "We just love it."

Around Allegheny County are 1,700 PCs in 82 sites that are maintained by the eiNetwork. The libraries use many different types of computers, ranging from early generation 486s to Pentium IVs. The operating systems are primarily Windows XP. Their biggest use for VMS was with children's CDs. Prior to using VMS, when a child needed to run a program on a CD, a library staff member would have to load the CD for them. When the child was finished, the library staff member would be interrupted again to retrieve the CD from the computer. With VMS, that is no longer necessary. Now, anyone can access the program they want simply by clicking on the appropriate icon. The program they wish to run is inserted virtually. Because no actual discs need to be inserted, the patron doesn't need an assistant to come over and help them. "The library staff can load and unload the program by themselves," says Ms. Clarkson.

According to Ms. Clarkson, the use of " VMS makes the programs run faster and smoother." Since you are now accessing the program from the hard drive instead of the CD, your speed increases to almost 200X versus a normal CD drive speed of about 32X. Asked if Ms. Clarkson liked the program, she responded, "We'd like to put it in all of the libraries when we have the budget."

Eagle Canyon Elementary School is part of the Chino Valley Unified School District located in Chino Hills, California.
Early this year Eagle Canyon Elementary School purchased a 50-user of VMS Network for its computer lab. Prior to using VMS, students had to handle the CDs to run the instructional software programs, sometimes resulting in damaged and lost CDs. According to Principal Michael A. Harrell, "The major benefit of VMS has been not having to handle anymore CDs. We took all of the software programs, such as Kid Pix Studio, that normally need to be in the CD-ROM drive and now run them off a single work server using VMS. I have been very impressed with the access speed and can even run the programs on computers that do not have CD-ROM drives."

"We have no more lost or damaged CDs. I plan to expand the use of VMS by networking the classroom and library research computers to the work server. This will provide easy access to CD-ROM-based encyclopedias, dictionaries, and atlases. We have been very happy with the results and receive many visits from other schools that are interested in following the same program."

·         The Children's Home of Stockton's Non-Public School (NPS) is a private non-profit, non-sectarian special education school certified by the California State Department of Education.

The school program provides an alternative educational environment for students requiring intensive specialized educational and/or socio-emotional programming in a highly structured educational environment. Students may be referred to the NPS program for educational services either directly from the Residential program, or by local School Districts and County Offices of Education that desire a specialized setting for students with unique educational needs.

"VMS is an outstanding product. Our computer lab receives a lot use from elementary to high school aged students. We run a wide variety of educational and office software. We set up a VMS in a peer-to-peer configuration. Students access the various types of English, Science, Social Science, Vocational, Music, Math and Reference software from the VMS. VMS allows us to run a wide variety of software, with no risk of losing or damaging valuable software media."

  • Foresthill Union School, Northern California (Customer Letter)

·         We purchased the VMS last year for use in our elementary school (K-4) computer lab. It has proven to meet, if not surpass, our expectations for the lab environment. Looking forward, we would like to incorporate its use across our LAN so that the students can access the same applications from their classrooms. Application setup on our server was not difficult, nor was the installation on the client machines. We would recommend VMS to any school needing an easy, fast, and reliable means to share applications.

  •  Fullerton College

·         Fullerton College has been using VMS for two years. It is currently set up on our LAN to allow our labs and classrooms to run the multiple applications. We have used VMS on Windows 98, 2000, and XP. It's very easy to set up on the LAN and easy to incorporate into an existing Windows environment. VMS comes highly recommended by Fullerton College to any environment that needs to manage their CD applications.
