album-selling superstar Simon Webbe is newly-added to the star-studded
Lakeside Magic line-up.
Simon shot to fame in 2001 with boy-band Blue who had three number one hit
singles and sold 7 million albums and 4 million singles in just four
years.
The singer/songwriter/actor launched a successful solo career when the
four member of Blue went their separate ways. Simon has scored four top 20
hits of his own, including Lay Your Hands, No Worries, After All This Time
and Coming Around Again. His debut album Sanctuary was a double
platinum-selling hit, recording 1.5m sales worldwide. The follow-up Grace
went gold.
Simon has a blossoming career as an actor – co-starring alongside Jennifer
Love-Hewitt, Dougray Scott and Jimi Mistry in rom-com The Truth About Love
and appearing in gangster flick Rollin’ With the Nines. His latest movie
appearance will be a film from director of Predator, Hunt for Red October
and Die Hard John McTiernan. With a new album called Run in the pipeline,
Simon’s performance at Lakeside Magic is superbly-timed and is much
anticipated.

What have you been up to this summer?
I did Fashion For Relief for Naomi Campbell which was a great experience because I got to share the catwalk with so many stars - especially one of the top models, my friend Tyson Beckford. He was an inspiration for me as a kid growing up because I wanted to get into the game as well. There were a lot of inspiring people there – Sir Elton John’s partner David, who’s a very good friend of mine, Prince Naseem, Rio Ferdinand, so it was a great turn out. It was obviously to help with the floods up north which was a great cause. I like to get involved with as many charity events as possible.
What fashion ranges were you modelling?
I was modelling Oswald Boateng on that day. I was also supposed to go to Fashion Rocks but I had a nightmare - I lost my tickets! I’d been working all day and I got home and had a nice shower, went to the barber’s and all the rest of it and then I was about to get in the limo and I thought, ‘Hang on a minute!’ So that was a bit of a disaster.
Were you gutted?
Oh, big time!
What else have you been doing?
I’ve been in the studio recording the third album. I’m just experimenting with different sounds right now, heading in a different direction. But I don’t want to give too much away. Once you start giving people an expectation it’s not a surprise, I still want to give everyone a bit of the shock factor..
What’s this about a movie?
Yes, I’m in a new film with Danny Dyer. It starts production in December and hopefully starts filming in January. I found out I had the part when I finished filming Rollin’ with the Nines because it’s basically the same guys that put that together. They really liked the performance that I put on so they want to get me involved again.
Are you enjoying the whole acting thing?
Yeah. I’m also excited that I’m working with a new artist called Hoodman. He’s on Channel 4 every Thursday at 12.30am, so everyone try and tune in for that.
It takes place this Friday, 26th October, in the 400-seater Bamburgh Suite, and promises to be a fantastic night. The evening kicks off with a drinks reception and then a five-course meal, before Simon takes to the stage to perform.

He attended the awards ceremony last week at the Royal Society in London, where 10 year-old Arthur Morris was announced as the overall winner of the competition.
The art competition has been running for over 20 years now, and is supported by the Royal Academy of Art.
Said Simon: 'I am delighted to be supporting the Young Pavement Artists Competition.
It gives young people the opportunity to broaden their imaginations, raises awareness of environmental issues and, importantly, raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign - the only UK charity supporting all people with muscle disease.'

Simon Webbe has written and recorded a track
for the new blockbuster movie 'Fantastic 4: Rise Of The Silver Surfer'
Simon is a huge fan of the first Fantastic 4 movie and when he heard a follow up
was being made, he decided to write a song, Ride The Storm, especially for the
film.
Simon says:I love the Fantastic 4. As soon I heard they were releasing a second
movie, I wrote a track specifically for it with my guitarist. I sent a demo of
the song into Fox and they said yes straight away. I couldn’t believe it.
I ve always wanted to have a song on a movie soundtrack, and you don't get much
bigger than a big Hollywood blockbuster! I'm absolutely delighted. Filming the
video was a great experience. It was good to get into character and show another
side to me. I filmed it on the edge of rooftops in east London, and I felt like
a real super hero!.
The Fantastic 4 is Marvel first family of superheroes and the longest running
comic book series. The first movie opened in the UK in 2005 and took over 13
million at the UK box office. The Fantastic 4 meet their greatest challenge yet
in 'Fantastic 4: Rise Of The Silver Surfer' as the enigmatic, intergalactic
herald, The Silver Surfer, comes to Earth to prepare for its destruction. As the
Silver Surfer races around the globe wreaking havoc, Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben
must unravel the mystery of the Silver Surfer and confront the surprising return
of their mortal enemy, Dr. Doom, before all hope is lost.
Fantastic 4: Rise Of The Silver Surfer is released in UK cinemas on 15th June.
Ride The Storm by Simon Webbe is released on 18th June as a double A side with
another track, Grace, through Innocent Records.
