INTRODUCTION

The course has introductory character and covers four groups of issues:  

  • basic problems of banking (analysis of spheres of banking activities, main functions performed by banks and bank intermediation on financial markets - its historical evolution, present state, possible scenarios of future development, effect of globalization on banks),

  • description and analysis of main bank products, forms of payment performed via banks and interbank settlement systems,

  • goals and tools of monetary policy,

  • banking systems in different countries - similarities and differences.

 OBJECTIVES:

          Following are the main objectives of the course: 

  • Understand basic banking vocabulary,

  • Understand the process of money creation by banks,

  • Distinguish different kinds of bank intermediation,

  • Recognize main bank products,

  • Interpret and evaluate the situation in banking system in his/her country.
