Accessibility

We have made every effort to make this site accessible and easy for everyone to use, regardless which browser or browsing device is used. Specifically, we have incorporated a number of features which make the site easier to use by people with disabilities.

The site's layout takes into account users who are visually impaired and those who have difficulties using a mouse. It is fully compatible with popular screen reading software and can be easily navigated by people who prefer to use a keyboard for navigation.

If you are visually impaired, you are able to change most of the design format of this site to suit your needs. For example, you can change the font used, the size of the font and the font colour.

This site has also been designed with a high contrast between the text and background colours to make reading the text straightforward. However, changing the site's background colour can be particularly useful for users who rely on magnification technology as white can produce an uncomfortable glare. These changes can be achieved by changing preferences in your browser. The specifics are detailed below.

Using this site without a mouse:

This website is accesskey enabled. These keys allow the user to quickly move from one page to another. The accesskey is generally the first letter of the page name, though where the first letter has already allocated the second letter is used. Different browsers have differing methods of implimenting accesskeys:

  • Windows IE5x and 6x: use Alt + accesskey together to enable the link. Press the ENTER key to activate the link.
  • For Netscape 6x, and Firefox: use Alt + accesskey together.
  • Macintosh: use Ctrl + accesskey together.

Tabbing between links

Once you've accessed a page, you can use the TAB key to cycle through all the links contained on that page. Both external and internal links can be quickly navigated in this way. Once the desired link is reached, press the ENTER key to activate the link.

Here is the general order of the links you'll find as you tab through a page.

  1. Skip past the navigation menu.
  2. The main navigation menu, in order:
    • Homepage
    • Calendar
    • Results
    • Ratings
    • Join Us
    • Links
    • Downloads
    • Contacts
    • Gallery
  3. Secondary links (or Quicklinks) are links to specific areas on the current page and may sometimes include external links.
  4. Main content and all the links within that area of the page in the order that they appear on the page.
  5. Top, this may appear anywhere on the main page and returns the user to the top of the current page.
  6. Footer, Links to Webmaster and miscellaneous policies.

Tabbing past the last link on the page will cycle the user back to the first link on the page.

Changing the website font

To change font sizes in your browser:

  • Internet Explorer: Select View menu / Text Size and choose a larger or smaller setting as required. Depending on your brower it may also be necessary to also select ignore font sizes specified on web pages under the accessibility tab found under the Tools/Internet options menu.
  • Netscape 6 and above Hold down the Ctrl key and press + or –
  • Netscape 4 Hold down the Ctrl key and press [ or ]
  • Netscape 3 Select Options / General Preferences / Fonts / Choose Font
  • Netscape Navigator, go to the View menu and choose Increase Font until the text is the size you require.
  • Mozilla, go to the View menu, select Text Size and select Increase as many times as you wish.
  • Opera, go to the View menu, select Zoom and select one of the options over 100%.

Changing the colours on this website

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu, select Internet Options, select Colors and make changes to text and background colours in the Colors panel. Depending on your brower it may also be necessary to also select ignore colors specified on web pages under the accessibility tab found under the Tools/Internet options menu.
  • Mozilla,go to Tools, select Options and General. From here you will be able to change colours and other settings.
  • Opera,go to File, select Preferences and Fonts. Double click on the text you want to edit the colour of. To edit the background colour, go to File, then Preferences and select Page style. You can edit the background colour and other settings from here.
  • Netscape Navigator, go to the Edit menu, select Preferences, open the Appearance menu and select Colors. You can set the colour of text and background from here.
