When compared to the majority of films being released these days, HOSTAGE is about as good as it gets making this type of film...
Classic good honest cop thrown into a tough situation while trying to escape the burnout of a prior life is faced with some of society's worst criminals and human scum !
Bruce Willis does some of his best dramatic emotional acting in this tense hostage thriller.
Soundtrack helps build the moods and tensions.
This is not the mindless "cotton candy" formula fluff liberal Hollywood tends to toss out these days.. this is a real story with real world grit.
Sure there are some minor elements I may not have been 100% thrilled with regarding the kid's pat of the storyline, but no film can be 100% perfect in every regard for every viewer.
Like I said, this is about as good as it gets when making this type of film.
It's a shame it got such little attention when other lesser films are better known.

Very well-made. Reminded me most of the first and third Indiana Jones movies, great plot and diversified action segments, chase scenes, hunting for clues, dark passageways, etc. It also reminds me of those old Disney movies like "Parent-trap", "Swiss Family Robinson" and "North Avenue Irregulars" - thos films have great chemistry and humour between the leads which is really well integrated with the action.

There are tons of great acting names in the film as well and they happen to be some of my faves: Nick Cage is a superb hero, Sean Bean is terrific as the villian, Harvey Keitel, Jon Voight and a short cameo by Christopher Plummer.

More movies like this one would help pull Hollywood out of the doldrums for sure.

I'm really not the biggest fan of all of these animated movies that have been released lately but this one was absolutely awesome. It's a perect family film and grownups and children alike will love it. The story is about superheroes that are forced to live normal lives by the government. (Without using their powers) Mr. Incredible is now fat, and depressed and is married ot Elasticgirl and they have three children. But, MR. Incredible wants back in the game and wants to be able to fight crime once again. So when a mysterious offer shows up, he tries to lose weight and take it. The movie itself is very funny with some very well made images and characters. If you want to watch a movie with the whole family, this is in my opinion your best bet. Everyone will be pleased with this choice as it's exciting, funny, and just really neat.

In league with the Dark Lords of the Sith, the Trade Federation blockades the peaceful planet called Naboo. The leader of the Republic, the Supreme Chancellor, sends two Jedi Knights it investigate the matter. Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Queen Amidala, recently elected to the thrown, is convinced to leave her people to inform the senate. The badly damaged freighter stops on Tatooine for much needed repairs. Qui-Gon Jinn and Padmé Naberrie, the Queen's handmaiden, encounters a nine-year-old slave named Anakin Skywalker. This boy, although too old for Yoda's class of young lings, is strong with the force. It is believed that he's the chosen one that'll bring balance to the force.

This is a magical film that even crew members were willing to pose for screen time. Rick McCallum, George Lucas and even the attractive production assistant Amy Allen became an aid to the Twilek Senator.

I've watched "Smallville" since the beginning and started to get bored once it was in it's 3rd season. They needed to shake things up to make the show interesting again and they succeeded with this season. I'm not sure why the character Pete was written off in the 3rd season, but it was one of the much needed changes to the show. Pete had been reduced to a very boring, little-seen character, who took screen time away from much more interesting characters like Chloe. In the 4th season, they made the wise choice of bringing her more to the forefront. In past seasons, the show had gotten to be too much about Clark and Lana. In the 4th season, Clark and Lana are dating other people instead of obsessing about one another in each episode. We are also introduced to Lois Lane (Chloe's cousin). Although the appearance of this character at this point doesn't really match up with the Superman history (at least I don't think it does?), the actress they chose does a really good job and the writers have done a good job making her very appealing and different from any of the show's other characters. There are some stand-out episodes that are the best of the entire show in this season, such as the one where Lex is split into his good and bad halves, the one in which Clark and Lionel switch bodies and the hilarious prom episode. One thing that I really like about this show is that the lead females don't necessarily always need to be rescued by Clark. Lana, Chloe, Lois and even Mrs. Kent are strong women who are capable of taking care of themselves and who use their brains. This is displayed more in this season than any other. Another big reason for this show's success is the brilliant performances by the actors who play Lionel and Lex Luther. I highly recommend the 4th season of "Smallville".

My husband and I started 24 with this past season (season 4) and afterwards, we bought seasons 1-3 because we liked it so much. My husband enjoyed it so much that he said when season 5 hits, he won't watch it until it comes out on DVD!! But then he realized he'd be waiting a long time and couldn't decide what would be the better idea that's how addicting the show is. It's so cool to be able to have these DVDs and watch at your own leisure.

WHY NOT MAKE SIX 2 HOUR FILMS IN THE FIRST PLACE ?
WHY LEAVE OUT TOM BOMBADIL ?
WHY HAVE SAMWISE DISTURB THE LAKE MONSTER AND NOT GIMLI ?
WHY WAS THE ELVES HOME SO POSH AND OUT IN PLAIN SIGHT AND NOT MODEST AND HIDDEN IN THE TREE TOPS ?
WHY MAKE THE OH SO ORGANIC ENTS LOOK SO CRAPPY AND DIGITAL ?
I ONLY SAW THE FIRST TWO FILMS IN THE THEATER , PART TWO WAS SO CONVOLUTED I COULD BARELY FOLLOW ALONG .

I challenge anyone in the world to find a comedy sequel that outshines its predecessor, it simply does not happen. Consider a world where comedy movie sequels conform to the law of diminishing returns (Earth), and like the TV show SLIDERS, find an alternate universe where comic book movie sequels are always superior to the originals (Still Earth) Think about it: Superman, Batman, X-Men, Spider-Man, Blade and so on. So what's this got to do with Ocean's 12 you ask? Well, not much, except to point out that Hollywood has to stop making these movies. Don't get me wrong, I loved the original, it's sitting on my bookshelf and I watch it every now and then. But reuniting a quality cast won't work unless you have a great script and this does NOT. And i'm not one of those guys who swoons over Julia Roberts. There are a couple of laughs that earn it a star or two, but I declare: WHERE IS THE LOVE? The first one got it all right! This is banther fodder. Ocean's 12, Shrek 2, Whole Ten Yards et all play to the same money-making (Ka-Ching!) so-called "rule" of the lazy studio exec book that says that 6 good jokes makes a great movie. Blarghy! Grade F comedy that I wished I hadn't rented. How could it all go wrong? Maybe mystical, otherworldly forces are plotting war/revenge on comedy sequels. Or maybe this movie just really sucks.

I've been waiting for a long time for this movie to come out. This is the third and final instalment of the LOTR series, as in the books this is the last one. I guess everyone knows the story so there is no point in telling it.
The DVD is amazing!! Not just because you have 20000000000000 extra's (although they help ;) ) but because this is just such an amazing film. I wish more movies would do something like this work so hard on making the DVD surpass the cinema version!!
U have an extended cut with lot's of extra scenes, and the appandices tell you everything and i mean everything!!! From how the swords were made to how billy kissed 5 guys on the set :) lol
The feeling i got from watching all of this is wow!! I felt i was in the movie, really in it! Checking out all the art departments, weaponry take sword lessons, simply put amazing!!!
There are also other small extras like docu's that were made as inspiration by others which really bring a tear to ur eye.
This is a great movie, and the extras help bring everything to life in a way that is unique!!!!
Long live the king!!!

Beautiful scenery but a hopelessly bad film.

The story could have been written by a group of teenaged boys all suffering from ADD who have an unhealthy obsession with Japanese manga and a rudimentary grasp of human relationships.
The film is full of simplistic plot developments that serve only to move the action from one pretty place to another. Television ads for SUVs show more concern for telling a story than this film.

And there are amazing lapses of continuity: Jin's bow appears when bad guys show up and disappears after the action is over. Leo and Jin battle as the general's troops descend from the hills. But, the troops never arrive. This is sloppy film making and sloppy editing.

Zhang Yimou's films are pretty but empty of all else that makes for entertainment.

Island In The Sky on DVD

A little corny (this was 1953), but Andy Devine changing the settings on his radios and using his authentic DC-2/3 cigarette holder, are worth the price of admission on this movie. The High and the Mighty, which is also being released Aug 2, was made a year later, by the same writer and director, and quite a few of the actors. The rest of the actors included pretty much every male actor working in Hollywood at that time. Even Fess Parker hung up his coonskin cap to be in the movie, and yes, that is Alfalfa. The story is basically about Wayne and his crew being lost after a forced landing in cold reaches of Labrador somewhere, and all their buddies band together in their aircraft to search for them. Ernest Gann fans should note that this movie and The High and the Mighty, were the only novels of his he helped make into movies. A later excellent autobiographical book of his, "Fate is the Hunter", was also made into a movie, but was Hollywoodized. Gann, it is said, did not like the result. Read the book.

**Rent before you Buy**

I like Keifer Sutherland. He's a great actor and I enjoy his performance in this show. Solid performances from all of the actors in fact. But there are just too many "you have to be kidding me" moments. The premise is great, and I give them credit for trying something different instead of churning out more clones of Law and Order or X Files.

The show can be fun at times, but after watching the 16th episode, and literally laughing out loud seeing what becomes of Jack's wife and daughter by the end of it (I don't want to spoil it in case you actually make it this far into the series so you can laugh out loud too!), I absolve myself of watching any furthur episodes. The suspension of disbelief and cliches is just too much, it's like watching a terrible thriller.

Do yourself a favor and rent this before you even think about buying it. Myself, I'm stuck with an unfinished season 1 (because I can't bring myself to watch another episode, yes it's that bad.) and an unopened season two and three that will be going up on ebay when I have time this weekend.

The main reason I even purchased this title was because of all the glowing Amazon reviews.

Do yourself a favor and check out HBO's "The Wire" or FOX's "Firefly" (masterfully done, I can't say enough good things about Firefly or The Wire)

The fine performances and original idea save this from a 1-star rating.

Thinking of WAR OF THE WORLDS?

You will probably enjoy this movie if:

* You have ever wondered what Dorothy would have done if Martians came down from space and ate Aunty Em.

* You like David Lynch movies.

* You never missed a Farscape episode, but don't tell anyone.

* You like women in lace and young cuties with curls.

* You appreciate a good sense of humor as well as dramatic teary-eyed scenes.

Bought the pan-and-scan laserdisc. Bought the deluxe 20th anniversary laserdisc. Bought the 25th anniversary DVD. Now I've got the 30th anniversary DVD. And I don't feel cheated one bit.

Why? Because the original mono tracks are back. For someone who knows the film frame by frame, it's well worth the 15-20 bucks to be rid of that awful surround mix. It seemed so anemic, with sound effects that used to roar reduced to a whimper. (Unfortunately, Jaws has plenty of company in the crummy stereo remix department.)

The full documentary is nice to have, the booklet's cool, and on and on. But for those of us who've seen this thing 50-plus times, seeing it and HEARING it the way it's supposed to be is the most "deluxe" feature of all.

Pulp Fiction on DVD

This is a story of two low-rent hitmen,a crime boss, two bandits, and a desperate prizefighter facing thier faits in rhe course of two days. Travolta as Vincent has to take Marcilleus Wallace's put to dinner and show her a good time. Jackson as Jules is thinking of quitting his murdering job and starting a new life. And Bruce Willis as Butch has a pregnant girlfriend and has Marcellius Wallace on his trail. This movie reminds of Violence and Redemption in three major cities from the crime drama video game ''Grand Theft Auto''.

This is the best of the four Batman movies hand down; The didnt waste time on a poor story and didnt have cheesy effects like Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. The acting rivals Batman Begins but there is one very very big mistake in the movie that apparently no one has ever noticed. Harvey Dent is black in this movie...who is Harvey Dent? Two Face and he's white, not black. Dont know why people never caught onto this, unless there was apparently two Harvery Dents in Gotham

Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl on DVD

30.Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl

· Director: Gore Verbinski

· Run Time: 143 minutes
· Format: Color, Closed-captioned, Widescreen

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is a film of dynamic actors, special effects, and storyline. Such films are rare and should be appreciated with proper respect, and from the films popularity, I suspect as much if not more.

ACTORS: An incredible actor, Orlando Bloom, and an impressive actress, Kera Knightley, played the protaganists in this film. Such roles are not always easily played on screen, but they not only took the job and met expectations, they surpassed them. Geoffrey Rush played the evil antagonist, a zombie pirate captain who wants revenge. His job with his character is undeniably real. Johnny Depp played the role of someone in the middle, and he added a bit of amusement to the silver screen.

SPECIAL EFFECTS: A film that needs 150 zombie pirates on a ghost ship in the middle of the ocean needs a touch-up with the computer. With the blink of an eye, regular actors become blood-thirsty zombies. A spectacular feat.

STORYLINE: What can I say? A lot more than could fit in a simple review. With a highly creative and talented script team we get characters that have emotions weaved with others. We also get a plot that has such a simplicity to it without boring us into a deep sleep. The character Johnny Depp plays, a pirate at the end of his luck, is amusing, good, evil, and slightly over-the-top all at the same time, and is one of the main greats of the film. This plot shows amazing talant with the director, script-writer, and an all-star cast who have a certain type of chemistry with each other that can only show a legendary film in the end result.

Purely a joy to watch, Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is a must-see film. If not seen, it is better to watch it now rather than later, since it's a classic of its own time. Ten out of five stars.
