Guardians of Paradise
Remember the Fallen
"Honor, Fidelity, Courage."
Many millennia ago, the whole of this world was a flourishing paradise. The creatures that made their home here worked together to preserve their haven, remembering always to give thanks to Gaia, the great spirit of the world that gave them all they needed to survive. But one day, without warning, there came a host of demons. These were the spawn of the Wyrm. They decimated the land, killing mercilessly, and destroying what was once known as paradise.
The creatures of this world were trampled to dust by the demonic swarm. Those that survived sought refuge deep underground. They hid for decades, knowing that somehow they must reclaim their home and revenge themselves upon the scourge that had descended upon them. Their single-minded determination made them strong and fierce, and soon the strongest of the refugees began the journey to Gaia’s sacred forest; the only land left untouched, for even the demons dared not enter this hallowed ground, the last bastion of the great Goddess’ power.
Those that survived the journey fell upon their knees, begging Gaia for a way to defeat the cursed host. Gaia took heart in these faithful and blessed them with the strength of her fury; thus where the great werewolves born, the chosen of the Great Goddess. Gaia poured out her rage into these warrior’s hearts, twisting their forms into feral beasts and filling them with a desire to rend the demons limb from limb. She charged them thus; free my land and my people from the clutch of the Wyrm.
The champions of Gaia emerged from hiding and began the Great War to claim their land back. The demons, taken completely by surprise, did not last long against these fearsome warriors. They fell by the thousands to the wolves’ claw.
The werewolves returned to the refugee camps to sing the praises of the Great Goddess and to bring all who would accept into her embrace. Despite their initial defeat, the demons kept coming, certain they could destroy such a small force of newborn warriors. They formed a great army on the border of Gaia’s sacred grove. All those who had accepted Gaia’s strength responded with savage fury to this threat and drove the demons into a hasty and panicked retreat.
These first warriors cleared the land and forced the demons to withdraw. The remaining survivors finally came out to see daylight again but what they saw was not what they once remembered as paradise. It was now a barren, scorched land. Deeply saddened but heartened by their victory, they began rebuilding their world.
Their army defeated, the demons receded to once again to gather their forces. The werewolves remained, close to their sacred lands, their paradise. The survivors once again sang the praises of Gaia and sent their young warriors into the hallowed forests to accept Gaia’s blessing. These wolves pledged, in the presence of the Goddess to remain faithful warriors of Gaia for as long as they drew breath. They were determined to never again allow the Wyrm to force them from their home. These wolves became known as the…
