Art.
► Yes,
my Walter Mittyness knows no bounds. I've now decided to have a bash at doing a
bit of mail-art, as founder and, so far, sole member of the Dogs Playing
Snooker art collective. It cheers me up, and possibly the people at the sorting
office too. Bits and pieces of my badly drawn tosh are now appearing on
websites and in galleries across the world soon. Why not have a bash yourself?
Check out the new Mail Art Calls page for details.
Venus and
the Language of Love.
You can see my
contribution to this Argentinian mail art call here . Hope you like it.
Collage.
The collage I
knocked up for this Canadian project can be seen here . Look for Ed Willson on the list of contributors
and click that.
Penguins
Oh yes! My
quest for international obscurity is unstoppable I tell you! Now, I'm almost
completely unknown in
The Artist
and the Work.
I bought some
fridge magnets down the pound shop. They weren't magnetic enough to support
more than their own weight. Still, it's an ill wind that blows nobody any good.
This Italian bloke felt the benefit on this occasion. Once you've
found this you need to select the work and the author, then choose mostra
tutti. If you want to see a pic of me looking podgy and unwell, click on artist03.
To see my tribute to the memory of Carmen Miranda click on the word Willson.
Skyscraper.
A further
example of my policy of doing collages until I can get the hang of drawing.
This one, on a skyscraper theme can be viewed at the website of Elle
Mental.
Joseph
Cornell
This mail art
call was to celebrate the centenary of Joseph Cornell. He was a surrealist. He
lived with his mum. On a street called
Pagan/Goddess
Valentine
The frankly
vulgar Pagan valentine card I designed for this call will be on display in the
Library Gallery at the
No Meat

collage postcard I made for this mail art call by following this link.
Coffee
This project
was apparently run by a member of a chamber orchestra. It's generally held that
art should be about play and freedom, and you shouldn't get too hung up on
technique. Still, you've got to draw the line somewhere; the piece I did for
this call was crap even if I do say so myself. Look here. See?
Picasso
This is more
like it. I'd forgotten about this one. I'm on page four. A couple of the strings have
come off in the post, I notice.
Absolutely
Sweet.
I was going to
cover this one in hundreds and thousands, then laminate it, but
it was too much of a palaver.
Red Letters.
The site for this
project's got an interesting layout that means you see the contributions at
random. I haven't found mine yet, although I'm certain it must be there as I'm
listed among the participants and they've put a link to this site. One piece
was a tip of the hat to Kubrick's The Shining, and the other was based
on the lyrics to Strange, which you can read the full version of on the Music page. Happy
hunting.
Watch.
Look! I've
done something resembling proper drawing for this one. Follow this link
and look under the
Self
Portrait.
This piece came out okay. It's a neat idea having the
contributions displayed on a blog like this. Cheers Mick!
Dada's
Story.
Any excuse for
a juvenile pun, me. Click on this link to see me lowering the tone of this Dada related
mail art call.
Circle
This circular piece has been asembled into an art book. I'm in issue Number 3 when you follow this link.
Visitors From the Cosmos
Always one for a groan-inducing pun I did a drawing for this call. You can see my effort and contributions from others by following this link: http://members.pingnet.ch/nbt/mail_art.htm .
Christmas Trees.
This xmas tree related piece for a call from
Depression.
This depression themed call was another one that I’d forgotten about. You
can see my piece by following this link.
Bobby Dylan.
Oh yes! Another of my hilarious pun-based pieces of work. This one’s for
a call run by Ed Giecek, in honour of Bob Dylan’s sixty fourth birthday. Check
out my effort on Ed’s blog.
Furrowed brow.
This call had a furrowed brow theme. I’d like to believe the caption on
this one is false modesty, but it’s not. Follow this link to see the evidence.
Make me a map.
Not the most taxing piece I’ve ever knocked out, this one. Lazy? Me?
