"NEWS"
News Flash:
While Chad was off travelling 18 months ago, we had a fill in lead guitarist by the name of Ray Franke.
Well now that Chad been travelling and is back home again, we all decided that Ray will be taking his place.
Chad is now married with a lovely little daughter and another baby ready to drop in the next few weeks.
Chad is now very happy to fill in when Ray can't play or when Larry can't, acually it's really handy having a very versatile
four piece band, Chad, Ray and Wendy have a really good sound also, and it just adds to the variety in the music.
Ray has been in the Music industry for many many years and plays a good mix of Country songs as well as a good mix
of Rock and Roll.
We are pleased to Welcome Ray on board again for as long as he is able.
Ray Franke
Ray had piano lessons from an early age then changed to guitar in his teens after hearing Country Singer guitarist
Jimmy Lloyd at his brothers 21st birthday in Collie, once he heard the sound of the guitar he was hooked.
Ray went to Harvey Agricultural School, where he trapped and sold rabbits to save for his first guitar.
His parents went halves in the cost of the guitar $44.00 but in those days it was pounds and not a great selection of guitars.
At the school there was a Canadian teacher that played a big black Gibson acoustic guitar, he played alot of early American
and Austarlian country songs such as Hank Willaims, Slim Dusty he taught ray a few chords. Then Elvis Presley came on the scene
and those few chords came in handy for Elvis Presley,Kingston Trio, Bill Haley and Buddy Holly songs.
Later at 1968 he joined up with 4 budding musicians taught and coached and the band Incense and Peppermints was born.
Later the name was shortened to Incense, and the first major Rock and Roll band in Collie was away and is still playing today.
After 38yrs with three of the five original members still intact, and the 4th member was with the band for 30yrs.
The musical influences in Incense over the years has been the beetles, Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival,
Joe Cocker, Neil Diamond and many others.
Rays country influences were, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson.
He really loves the music scene playing guitar and singing, he has played in backing bands at Talents Quests coached and
taught many young and old people to achieve awards and have a go at music.
The 2yrs he has been playing in Country Horizon has been very enjoyable because of their enthusiasm to travel to play their
extended range of music to a wider audience, and the way the band assists other people to take up the passion for music.
Ray has played in many over the years, these include the 3 bands he currently plays in, Country Horizon, Incense, Midway.
Fragments, Limelight, Midnight Silhouette, Twilight, Water Front, Silhouette, Cloud, Shindig, Chevron.
