BODYPUMP™ 57 - UNPLUGGED - PUMP IT!

TECHNICAL REVIEW!

The class concentrates on the abdominal stabilization throughout the release. This is a working release and should be seen as such. It focuses on the proper execution of correct technique.

Music wise it is a longer (music framed) release which means lowering the weights and working on technique. Then you are working you way upwards in weight progression with this release. It reminds me of the Bodypump 30's series which is a good reference point.

New music comes our way with Cascada - Everytime we Touch, Infernal - From Paris to Berlin, Garbage - Push It, Scissor Sisters - Take Your Mama, The Black Eyes Peas - Pump It, I want you - Paris Avenue, Rock Star - Nerd, Don't Cha - Pussy Cat Dolls and Unbreak my Heart - Il Div0. This release is full of new music and Michael has excelled himself music wise this time around.

Track 4 and 8 diserve mention in this review!

TRACK 1 - Come to me - Tina Cousins!

Wonderful Life

Track Information

Tina Cousins sets the mood for the release with this techno driven track. It is fast track and sets the mood for the class. It is a form based track and sets the exercise routine for the rest of the class. In saying that there is tons of smooth moves and a wicked count beat to the track. It has a wonderful surprise ending. (Michael has stripped the track back) which is awesome as it allows proper form correction from the get up and go.

It is one of the best valued track 1's in the 50's series of Bodypump! Michael always chooses uplifting music for track 1's. Pretty Young Thing is her new single from "Wonderful Life" The single "Come to Me" was released 19 Sep 2005 in Australia. It was produced by Peter Waterman.

Music Rating: 9/10. I have the CD love the track, there is a outstanding mix of Wonderful Life on the CD.

TRACK 2 - From Paris to Berlin - Infernal!

Track Information

It is a technical squat track - you can easily stick on alot of weight for this track. I can remember doing "All Night Long" - release 21 and this track has the same vibe and feel. Although there are no rapid singles in this release I think the variations on the squats in this track are both challenging and rewarding at the same time.

Music Rating: 9/10.
Technical Difficulty 8/10.

Paris Avenue's music is really cross generation enjoyable. and that adds to the enjoyment of the track. The great thing is that Michael has choreographed a challenging track with a number of options that can go on forever.

KEY MUSCLE ACTIVATION - QUADRICEPS (RECTUS FEMORIS.), GLUTEUS MAXIMUS AND MINIMUMS, SPINAL ERECTORS.

TRACK 3 - Push it - Garbage!

Track Information

This is a loading track. By that you work deep into the Pectoralis Major and Minor and work deep inside the muscle. There is alot of foundation work in this track and you work against gravity on several parts of the track. It reminds me of using negative sets in a gym bench press. It is a track where you can load on more weights.

Music Rating: 8/10.
Technical Difficulty 9.5/10

Music wise Garbage are an outstanding act. Technically the track works in reverse which is a great shock for the muscles. There is enough room for personal growth (weight progression.) which makes this track a standout of the 50's series of Bodypump.

KEY MUSCLE ACTIVATION - BENCH PRESS - ELBOW FLEXORS (BICEPS, BRACHIORADIALIS.) DELTOIDS, PECTORALS, SHOULDER SUB MUSCLES

TRACK 4 - Everytime we Touch (Original Mix) - Cascada !

Track Information

In all the Bodypumps that I have done this track is the best track 4 ever. It is the first time I can remember a track closely blocked. It reminds me of gym program you would give a client and has a (gym focused) feel to the track. The track and program (choreography) has a real nice progression feel to it. This track is one of the highlights to this release. Thoroughly enjoyable - challenging track :)

Music Rating: 10/10.
Technical Difficulty: 10/10

The technical aspect of the track and the expert choreography of this track gives it the highest possible ranking.

KEY MUSCLE ACTIVATION - RECTUS FEMORIS, SPINE ERECTORS, GLUTEUS, HAMSTRINGS ....

Track Information

This track is one of the best track 5's ever. Michael seems to be able to locate tracks that suit triceps. There is tons of working the triceps in this track. The track is a total buzz from the first count to the end.. The triceps burn in this track which is way cool :)

Music Rating: 10/1o
Technical Difficulty:7/10

Technically this is an awesome track. Music wise I love the group. It is a highlight of the release.

Track Information

Now the fun begins. Matrix Training is an awesome way to tone the muscles and sculpt the body. Parts of this track remind me of the Matrix Training Principle. One of the first programs I did was a mix of Periodisation and Matrix and I love that this has come to this track. There is tons of Lactic Acid pumping throughout this track which gives the biceps a real shot. It reminds me of doing short range work on a preacher curl. Awesome choreography by Michael on this track. It is one of the shortest track 6's I have seen in the 8 years I have been with Bodypump.

Music Rating: 8/10.
Technical Difficulty:9/10

You have to know your craft as a gym instructor and Bodypump Instructor with this one.

KEY MUSCLE ACTIVATION - BICEPS, BRACHIALLIS (ELBOW FLEXORS.)

TRACK 7 - I Want You - Paris Avenue Feat. Robin One!

© 2006 Hussle Recordings
© 2006 Hussle Recordings

Track Information

I Want You is a form correction track, tons of deep lunges and working the muscles and joints. This track you can do without the bar and work deeper into the lunges. Sometimes working without the bar works well and this track is one of those tracks. In saying that there is tons of work with weight options. You can work either sides of the spectrum with this track.

Music Rating: 7/10.
Technical Difficulty:8/10

Technically it is a form correction track and that makes it a hard lunge track. Keeping it less buzy makes this an awesome lunge track. Music wise awesome simular to Bodypump 55 "Motorcycle"

KEY MUSCLE ACTIVATION- HAMSTRINGS, SPINAL ERECTORS - GLUTEUS MAXIMUM, BICEP FEMORIS, SEMIMEMBRANOSIS, SEMITENDNOSUS, RECTUS FEMORIS, VASTUS MEDIALIS, AND VASTAS LATERALIS

TRACK 8 - Rock Star (Clean Edit) - N.E.R.D!

© 2002 Virgin Records (USA)
© 2002 Virgin Records (USA)

Track Information

N.E..R.D have entered the house. I have been waiting since 2003 for this track in Bodypump. This track and the one by "Cascada" are standout tracks from this release. Michael has worked tons of options into this track Which should please the die-hard Bodypumpers out there. This track and the one from release 55 "I Get Up" are outstanding in that they work the shoulders and upper body. The end result is lactic acid burns which are awesome in track 8.

Music Rating: 10/10
Technical Difficulty:10/10

Love N.E.R.D and this track is awesome. Love the video to this track. It was on Video Hits last weekend.

TRACK 9 - Don't Cha - Pussycat Dolls !

© 2005 Universal
© 2005 Universal

Track Information

The Pussycat Dolls come to Bodypump. I have been on and on and on about bicycle abdominal work for years. I love them they work deep into the Rectus Abdominous and also the External Obliques. This track is now my favorite track 10 in the whole 50's series of Bodypump. I adore this track because it reminds me of the 30's series of Bodypump where we has tons of latin tracks for abs.

Music Rating: 8/10
Technical Difficulty:10/10

You need to educate the abs in this track and concentrate on breath, activate the B/Line and work and work and work the abs and external obliques till it hurts. :)

KEY MUSCLE ACTIVATION- ABDOMINAL CRUNCHES - RECTUS ABDOMINUS - ERECTOR SPINAE OBLIQUES LYING TRANSVERSE ABDOMINUS

TRACK 10 - Unbreak my Heart - IL Divo !

© 2005 Sony/BMG
© 2005 Sony/BMG

Track Information

Now the best part of the class. I adore Il Divo and love this track. It was featured on the Bodybalance site I reviewed then about 12 months ago. When I ordered the CD no one knew who they were. Now the world love IL Divo. All I can say silence is golden in this track, no talking cue it up and just let the music take control. The music is center stage. Awesome choreography by Michael on this one. I adore this track and it is now my favorite in the 50's series of Bodypump :)

Music Rating: 10/10.

FINAL THOUGHTS

  • Music Rating: 8/10
  • Technical Difficulty:7/10
  • Choice of Exercises: 8/10
  • Variations in themes: 8/10
  • Enjoyment Level 10/10

The releases that Michael has choreographed towards the end of him being Product Manager and Head Choreographer are some of his best work. This release will not disapoint anyone.

That’s my review of Bodypump 57!

Then there is Michael's quote "Use it before you abuse it."
