Romans 5:11
And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
When viewing Atonement from the outside, one may see a hardcore/metal band giving it their best shot. Also one may see a band that is trying to get into the already populated metal scene. These observations are pretty accurate. But only when looking at the members and the inside of Atonement can one see the true band.
Phil Tharp and Steve Goupil were the original two members and were looking for a vocalist and a bass player. They needed someone with promise and talent. Someone who would drive the band and aspire to be great. They found Josh; he was looking for a band to play with and had some great lyrics, character and maturity to add to the band. While still lacking a bassist, they did what they could without it as Burden of Proof. After a few months of finding no bassist that the band was comfortable with, Josh picked up the bass in order to get the full sound that a band should have. After which they became Atonement.
Their soon to be released album, “Bleeding for Strangers” examines various parts of a Christian’s life, before and after salvation and has six tracks of diverse sounds that are reminiscent of Living Sacrifice, Norma Jean, and War of Ages, and includes 10 tracks ranging from fast paced to slow and melodic. Their title track, “Bleeding for Strangers”, which was inspired by The Passion of the Christ, speaks of the story of Jesus Christ and what he did for us. The track titled, “You Loved Me” is about the crucifixion and the realization of an unbeliever about Jesus. And “Dead Man Walking” refers to the life of a Christian after salvation with a fast paced, high energy rhythm.
Atonement has played one concert to date. The "Life Together Fest '06" at the Seabreaze amusement park in Rochester, New York. They were able to play four of their most popular songs. They are attempting to schedule a few more.
Atonement is currently in the process of producing CD's and sending them into record companies such as, Flicker, SRE, and Facedown. Keep listening and keep Atonement in your prayers.
