Don't Be A Victim! The Women's Street Survival is a popular program which was developed over 12 years ago by Detectives Rich Braconi and Blaine Elmer. It is designed to make women more aware of an attack situation and how to avoid a confrontation. "Gore," a fully padded instructor, confronts the students. Women learn how to avoid the encounter, take control and survive. Rich and Blaine developed this seminar using their knowledge of karate as well as their experience in law enforcement and what really works on the street. They also used the information they gathered from interviewing convicted criminals. The program had been taught in the local adult school but has since been presented in the karate school. Many former participants have stated that they developed confidence and felt more prepared to defend themselves. The program lasts from 4 to 6 weeks and about an hour and a half for each session .

The children's seminar "Safe From Strangers" was developed during the summer of 2002. A program similar to the Women's Street Survival had frequently been presented to the young students of American Karate, but never to the children of the Hamilton community. A two evening seminar was planned, but not using the padded attacker. The seminar is just as challenging to the children. The students have the opportunity to role-play realistic possibilities and develop the confidence needed to be alert and prepared if approached by a stranger. The seminar targets children ages 5 to 12 and is offered about twice a year. There are two sessions with each one lasting about one hour.
